Application Process

In order to be considered for our Volunteer Program you must complete all steps of the application in their entirety. It is also important to consider that the application and interview process can be lengthy, so for those who are serious about volunteering please understand that acceptance into the program may not begin until quite some time (up to 8 weeks) after sending a completed application.

Steps to Apply

1. Print & complete your application package, which includes the following three items:

• Application Form
• Reference Form
• Current Resume

2. Attend an interview to examine your qualifications and eligibility to volunteer. This interview will begin very generally and then focus in more on your area of interest (inpatient, outpatient, liaison or programming)

Note that all applications are reviewed, but due to the volume of applications we receive, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

• Pre-Employment Health Interview (including immunization records & a two-step TB test)
• Volunteer Orientation where you will be educated in your duties as well as health and safety such as fire safety training and WHMIS testing. Orientation takes place the 2nd & 4th Tuesday afternoon of every month.
• Provide proof of health coverage such as OHIP
• Provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening which will be obtained from your local police department
• Complete SHHA/SHMC privacy training and sign the Confidentiality Agreement
• Attend additional unit/department training and orientation
