Hours of Operation:
Monday to Friday: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm
Saturday, Sunday and Statutory Holidays: 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Ultrasounds will be booked Monday to Friday only.
After regular working hours and on all statutory holidays, the Diagnostic Imaging Department is staffed by "On Call" personnel for emergencies only.
Patients seen in the Family Practice Clinic and the doctors' offices should be directed to call the department during regular working hours to arrange their appointment.
X-rays for walk-in patients will be done as soon as possible with the exception of those examinations requiring patient preparation; these x-rays will be scheduled at the earliest available time.
Patients are requied to present their Health Card and requisition to Diagnostic Imaging registration 10 minutes before their appointment.
If you Do Not have your requisition, the procedure will not be done.
Patients will be referred to their family physician for follow-up, unless instructed otherwise on the requisition.
Bone Mineral Density
An appointment is necessary for all bone mineral density testing.
Emergency patients requiring x-rays which can be deferred until the next morning will be asked to return at the following times: Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m., Weekends 9:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Patients requiring an ultrasound procedure should be directed to call the department during regular hours and an appointment for the procedure will be made at the earliest booking available.
Preparations for ultrasound procedures:
• Abdominal ultrasound: Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before the ultrasound examination.
• Renal & aorta ultrasound: No preparation required.
Obstetrical or pelvic ultrasound: Finish 40 ounces of water 1½ hours before the appointment time.
Do not empty the bladder from this time until after the appointment has been completed.
Preparations for gastric procedures:
Patients should refer to instructions on the requisition for upper GI, barium swallow, and barium enema procedures.
